Why these parts

The 4:37 address is one argument: what the deal does, three answers to its critics, and what happens without it. The run kept 36 whole lines (3 min 12 s of the address, with the breath around each line) and cut the rest only between sentences, never inside one or sped up. It opened on his own question and answer from 2:47 ("Does this deal resolve all of the threats...? No. ... Yes.") because the Al Jazeera reference opens on its narrator's question the same way. Then his framing line, the deal itself, and his three rebuttals as three chapters, with the list of what is lost "without this deal" and his line on diplomacy over war. Cut: the passage on why the talks took so long, the debate and convention scheduling, and the sign-off, replaced by a short dated coda (the US left the deal on 8 May 2018) so a 2015 claim is not left standing as if it were today.

Before: the source, cut the same way
After: the edit

How it got here

The run as it happened, draft by draft, with every round of the owner's feedback. Told from the conversation in the case study.

  1. The prompt

One message in Egyptian Arabic, with two files: raw.mp4, President Obama's 18 July 2015 Weekly Address on the Iran deal (4:37, landscape), and reference.mp4, an Al Jazeera English vertical reel on Iran (3:13). Re-edit the raw in the reference's exact style with Al Jazeera's identity as it is, find and download recent real official footage, decide the start questions alone, and show a preview before building.

  2. Reading the reference and the raw

The project opened and two passes ran side by side: the reference was cut into frames and measured (shots, cuts, sharpness, colour), and both videos were transcribed word by word. The local speech models were missing, so the run downloaded faster-whisper large-v3-turbo first.

  3. Lifting the identity

Al Jazeera's logo bug was lifted from the reference at 176 s and its end card from its last 3.8 s. The reference's studio screen was rebuilt from a NASA Blue Marble satellite map of Iran with Natural Earth borders, teal and dark, with red light pillars on both sides.

  4. The brief, decided alone

The start questions were waived by the prompt, so each slot took its recommended answer: a talking-head reel in English, 2:30 to 3:00 like the reference, Obama always dated on screen (THE WHITE HOUSE / 18 JUL 2015) so no viewer reads 2015 as today.

  5. Truth check and paper edit

The transcript was checked against the official text in the Public Papers of the Presidents (govinfo); one speech recognition slip was fixed. Then a paper edit of 35 whole sentences: his own question and answer from the middle of the address became the hook, his three rebuttals the chapters, and scheduling detail was cut.

  6. Matting and official footage

Obama was matted with Robust Video Matting and placed in the rebuilt studio. A researcher gathered official footage with its licence: EU audiovisual service from Vienna, State Department and White House photos, the White House statement of 14 July 2015, IAEA inspectors (labelled as the Netherlands, since no free footage inside Iran's sites exists) and the 2018 withdrawal.

  7. First preview

Stages 01 to 03 passed the approver role, and the preview went to the owner before any build: 22 style frames, a 37-shot storyboard and the 35-line paper edit, 3:09 in all.

First preview: a frame the owner reviewed
  8. Owner's note: no code music

The owner had heard code-made sound in another test and ruled it out. The run withdrew its code score and measured library tracks against the reference's dark, slow bed; three recorded Pixabay tracks were cut under Obama's first 30 s for the owner to choose, with recorded sound effects, one per move.

  9. Owner's note: reasons, not copies

The preview had darkened Obama inside a red halo. In Al Jazeera's reels the dark silhouette on red is the person being talked about, never the speaker. The owner asked for a table of every reference element: what triggers it in the words, what it means, on whom, when it enters and leaves. Then the session limit paused the run for 1 h 43 min.

  10. Every element tied to a word

Fourteen reference elements were read against the reference's own transcript, and every appearance in the storyboard now names the sentence of Obama's that justifies it: Zarif for "threats Iran poses", the signatories for "more than anyone", Khamenei for "Iran could move closer". Obama stays lit. The country line was restored so six country cards land on each name he says.

  11. Second preview

The new frames, the element table and the three music animatics went to the owner. Finishing was measured from the reference and used only where the reference uses it: defocus cuts, white flashes at chapters, film texture only on the grey archive cards.

Second preview: a frame the owner reviewed
  12. The owner's choice

Two words from the owner: "تراك A" (track A), AtlasAudio's "Tension Documentary". That was the go-ahead to build.

  13. The build

The C drive filled to zero within a minute, so the graphics render stopped and moved its temp files to D. The picture rendered in four parallel parts cut at shot boundaries, the graphics with alpha and motion blur, and the music was edited to the 3:18 bed. A second session limit paused the run from 04:21 to 07:33 while the parts finished.

  14. Delivered

The four parts joined to 6053 frames with no visible seam: 1080x1920, 30 fps, 3:21.8, -16.3 LUFS. Film gate green with four yellows the report states plainly: slower than the reference (mean shot 7.0 s against 4.0 s), weakest from 2:13 to 2:43. No cold-viewer read and no re-transcription of the final audio were made.

Delivered: a frame the owner reviewed

      COMPLIANCE: obama-iran-aj-reel

Status: ready, with three on-screen honesty rules.

Topic: political news explainer built from a 2015 US presidential address. Platforms: Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts (AJE social). Market: global English.

Archive date on screen. The address is from 18 July 2015. A dateline on every Obama shot ("THE WHITE HOUSE / 18 JUL 2015") and the opening title make the date plain, so the reel is never read as current news about 2026 events. Source: platform rules on misleading political media; journalism practice.

Composite disclosure. Obama is matted from his own footage onto a recreated studio screen; his words, voice and timing are never altered (cuts only between sentences, no speed change, no synthetic speech). The delivery note states the composite. No generated faces, voices or footage.
