AJ360 style edit

Al Jazeera 360, broll-overlay. How it was made with Ice Motion Director, from the prompt to the delivered film.

An unofficial test edit made with Ice Motion Director; not an Al Jazeera or Al Jazeera 360 production. The footage and marks belong to their owners.

Before and after

The raw source, cut to the same parts in the same order, plays against the finished edit.

The source: studio take (practice clip shared with an editing tutorial), “RAW.mp4”, published by Ahmed Maher's tutorial assets (YouTube channel "Ahmed Maher", public asset folder of his tutorial); original footage Al Jazeera 360. The person filmed is not named, 0:10 long. Open the source

Ice kept 0:10 of it, in 1 parts:

  1. 0:00 to 0:10

Why these parts

Nothing was picked out: the whole take was used. The prompt asked for the edit "with the raw's own content", and the whole raw is five spoken sentences in 10 seconds, so the run kept every word, uncut and at its own speed (decision D-07: the speech is never cut, sped up or faded before its last word). Only the last 0.005 s of silence was left out. What the run chose instead was what each sentence carries: the reference move that the same kind of sentence triggers in the Al Jazeera 360 promo, real NASA teams at work under "others" and "solutions" (3.85 to 6.30 s, the raw's sound continues), and the platform's end card after the last word.

Before: the source, cut the same way
After: the edit

How it got here

The run as it happened, draft by draft, with every round of the owner's feedback. Told from the conversation in the case study.

  1. The prompt

One message, relayed by a lead session: edit a 10 second raw studio take in exactly the editing style of an Al Jazeera 360 promo, keep the raw's content and the platform's identity as it is, find the latest real official footage, ask no start questions, but show a preview before building the film. Both files came from the asset folder of a YouTube tutorial on editing in the Al Jazeera style.

  2. Reading the two videos

Ice probed both files, cut the reference into its shots and transcribed the raw word by word with a local Whisper model (large-v3-turbo). The first surprise: the speaker in the raw speaks English, not Arabic: "Leadership is not about having all the answers...". The film would keep his voice untouched and put a faithful Modern Standard Arabic translation on screen.

Reading the two videos: a frame the owner reviewed
  3. Measuring the reference

The 60 second promo was measured, not eyeballed: cut rhythm, the red disk and its colours, the glass caption capsule with its red dot, the tinted archive bursts, the end card. The official Al Jazeera 360 logo and the house fonts were taken from the platform's own website, aljazeera360.com.

  4. Cutting out the speaker

The reference slides words and a red disk behind the presenter's head. To do that on the raw, Ice made a person matte for all 240 frames (rembg, u2net_human_seg), so graphics can pass between the speaker and the studio. In parallel, a helper agent searched for recent official footage.

Cutting out the speaker: a frame the owner reviewed
  5. Brief, direction and plan

With the start questions waived, every open choice was decided and logged with its alternatives: a broll-overlay edit, 16:9 at 1920x1080 and 24 fps, 13.5 s (all 10 s of speech plus the platform's end card), no name for the speaker because none was given. Each of the five spoken sentences got the reference move that the same kind of sentence triggers there. The first version of the film page was written at 00:50.

  6. Paused, and three notes from the owner

The session hit its usage limit and waited 1 h 42 min. Meanwhile Omar sent three notes: no music or sound effects made by code, only real library recordings, with three tracks to choose from; every element copied from the reference must have a reason in the speech, and the speaker always stays lit; and the premium finish (motion blur, depth blur, film texture, vignette, glow, grade) must be measured from the reference and applied for the same reasons.

  7. A reason for every element

Ice transcribed the reference too and built a table of what triggers each element there. Anything without a trigger in our speech was dropped: the neon title, the crosshair, the flag, the "now showing" badge. For "others" and "solutions" it chose real teams at work from NASA's 2026 library (an Artemis III countdown simulation and the Orion splashdown room), public domain with NASA credited. A second agent found three music tracks and one recorded effect per move on Pixabay.

A reason for every element: a frame the owner reviewed
  8. The preview

The composition page was rewritten on the new plan, checked on stills and rendered at half resolution with motion blur. At 03:30 the owner received three previews, one per library track, with the reasons table, as the prompt asked: nothing was built at full size before his answer.

The preview: a frame the owner reviewed
  9. The owner's pick

Omar's answer, six minutes later: A and B were both very good, he picked B, "Deep Bass Cinematic Tension Forensic Noir Investigative Pulse" by Jose Luligo.

  10. Full HD build and a cold viewer

The 1080p render started at once, with the final mix at -14 LUFS. It failed once because drive C was full and was rerun on drive D. A fresh agent watched the film cold: it got the idea ("good leaders ask questions and let the team find answers, together") and named Al Jazeera 360 from the logo and end card, but did not know who the people in the archive shots were, so a "المصدر: ناسا" source tag was added. With the logo and name covered, it could not name the platform in any of six frames; for this edit type that test is an extra check, reported as not passed.

Full HD build and a cold viewer: a frame the owner reviewed
  11. Paused again

A second usage limit stopped the run for 3 h 19 min, in the middle of the final assembly.

  12. Gates and the end card

Back on track, the source tag was spliced in and every gate ran on the final file: spec, -14.1 LUFS, no black or white frames, five cuts. The motion check found the end card standing still for about 2.5 s; the reference's end card settles slowly, so a gentle drift that eases to rest was added and the still part fell to 1.4 s.

Gates and the end card: a frame the owner reviewed
  13. Delivered

Final film: 13.5 s, 1920x1080, 24 fps, Arabic and English caption files, an EDL and a delivery report with every measured number. 8 h 6 min from the prompt to delivery, of which about 3 h 5 min was work and the rest two usage-limit pauses. The speech was never cut, sped up or changed.

brief, compliance, brand sheet, footage ledger, transcripts; approver checks run in this session (sequential pass, not independent)

    Decisions

    • D-02 Goal, D-03 audience and market, D-04 platform and canvas, D-05 length, D-06 language

      Why, and its source

the reference is an Arabic platform promo whose on-screen words carry the speech; the raw's speech is English, so the Arabic words must translate it faithfully and the voice stays untouched.

Source: prompt quoted; raw transcript (faster-whisper large-v3-turbo, 2026-10-29); reference analysis

    • D-07 What to avoid

      • no name or title lower third for the speaker (his identity is not given and the raw's face differs from the reference host); no words beyond the speech's own meaning; the speech is never cut, sped up or faded before its last word.Chosen

Source: ice-edit rules section 4; truth rules of ice-assets

    • D-08 Brand owner status and identity mode

      • A not owner, unofficial practice edit using the official files as they are (taken)
      • B owner, official
      • C not owner, identity recreated in a neutral look
      • D no logo at all

the user asked for the identity "as it is" and did not say they are Al Jazeera; the delivery note lists the permissions an owner would need.

Source: prompt quoted; questions.md section 5 waiver

    • D-09 Versions

      • A master 16:9 only (taken)
      • B plus a 9:16 reel
      • C plus a 6 s cutdown
      • D plus an English-caption version

the reference is a single 16:9 promo; nothing in the request asks for other formats.

    • D-16 Owner's notes, relayed by the lead session on 2026-10-29

    • D-17 Inserts

      • A real NASA teams at work, 2026 (Launch Control Center, Artemis III terminal count simulation, 2026-10-15
      • Orion Mission Evaluation Room at splashdown, 2026-04-10) (taken)
      • B Artemis II launch and crowd (2026-04-01): fits "future" and "together" but those lines carry their own graphics
      • C SLS spacer build (2026-10-13): fits "build" but B4 is a concept label
      • D stock footage: not official

"others" and "solutions" are people solving a problem together; the newest official footage that shows exactly that is NASA's 2026 control-room work, public-domain under NASA's media guidelines.

      Storyboard

Plan: B-roll, overlays and beats (stage 02 approach, stage 04 plan)

      Approach (02)

The raw stays whole: one 10.0 s take, every word kept, no speed change, no grade on the person except the black and white beat the reference itself uses. Each of the five spoken sentences gets one of the reference's signature moves, in the reference's own order: rack-focus open with the red disk and stacked kinetic words behind the head, a punch-in with the glass caption capsule, a quick burst of tinted real footage, the black and white glass-panel word scroll, the neon title. The Al Jazeera 360 bug, the "يعرض الآن" badge and the app capsule stay on top as in the reference, and the platform end card closes the film. Density is heavy (every line carries a graphic), as measured on the reference; cuts sit only between sentences.

Viewer takeaway (for the clarity read): "Leading means asking the right questions and empowering others; it is an Al Jazeera 360 piece."
